| Ninety-four percent (94%) are living in poverty (below 100% of the poverty line); Eighty-seven (87%) have no form of health insurance at the time of service; Twenty-four percent (24%) are residents of public housing; Seventy-five percent (75%) are homeless; Of those who are homeless, sixty-eight percent (68%) reside in shelters, fourteen percent (14%) are doubling-up with friends or relatives and four percent (4%) are sleeping unsheltered, on the street; Forty-six percent (46%) have a diagnosed chronic illness; Seventy-one percent (71%) are African American, twenty-two percent (22%) are Caucasian, and five percent (5%) are Hispanic/Latino; and The average age of our patients is forty-two, with a high male ratio (66%). |
