Care Alliance Health Center launches virtual health services offering Telepsychiatry to its patients

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 16, 2019 FOR MORE INFORMATION: Terrie H. Carter (216) 535-9100 x246 CLEVELAND, OH – December 16, 2019. Care Alliance Health Center (CAHC) announced the addition of telepsychiatry to its growing platform of medical services available to the Cleveland community. As part of CAHC’s mandate to increase access, and funded by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Department, telepsychiatry will offer remote appointments for patients to receive mental health services using teleconferencing equipment and software. According to a 2018 study, America’s Mental Health 2018, co-authored by Cohen Veterans Network (CVN), and the National Council for Behavioral Health, the lack of access to mental health services is causing a mental health crisis in the United States. The addition of telepsychiatry at CAHC will provide, promote, and support the delivery of high quality, accessible behavioral health services at a time when over 56% of Americans are seeking these services. Dr. Nitika Mahajan, MD, a psychiatrist with Care Alliance Health Center, stated that “our goal is to very simply provide high-quality psychiatric care to underserved populations which ultimately will enhance continuity of care.” During sessions with Dr. Mahajan, both she and the patient are able to simultaneously view each other using a secure, user-friendly platform that includes monitors and high-definition pan-tilt and zoom cameras. The cameras allow Dr. Mahajan to assess the fine motor skills of the patient and track movements to assist her in connecting and communicating with the patient. Patients are attended to by a nurse and care coordinator during their appointments to provide the same level of care and wraparound services, such as health insurance consultation or social service assistance, as needed by each patient. “We are driven to find innovative strategies to meet the needs of our unique patient population, and Care Alliance will continue to leverage evidence-based advancements in technology that will improve the health outcomes of our patients,” said Dr. Claude Jones, DO, Interim President, CEO and Chief Medical Officer. Telepsychiatry services are available at the St. Clair Clinic located at 1530 St. Clair Avenue, NE, Cleveland, OH 44114. Anyone interested in making an appointment should call 216-535-9100. In the near future, Care Alliance will be adding telehealth to its roster of services, offering cost-efficient and increased access to primary medical and specialty care.
